Lady Lions competitive volleyball season typically begins August 1st. Pre-season team activities will be conducted throughout JULY. Registration begins JUNE 1ST and ends on JUNE 23RD. Initial, non-refundable registration payment of $85 must be made by June 24. Late registration from June 24-28 will incur a late fee. A non-mandatory volleyball camp is available in June (see calendar and/or announcements.) There is a fee of $75-$85 for this 4 day camp depending on age group,  Non-team members are permitted to participate at $85-$95.

There are no tryouts for Middle School players, who will be placed on the competitive team according to age, however High School teams will be formed according to players’ skills and a skill assessment early in the season during a TRYOUT on JUNE 24 and placement will be made during practice to begin teams and as the season progresses. Attendance at tryout is mandatory for all players. If there are more registrants than there are spots available on the team, an intramural team will be formed and LHSA will form a developmental team that will facilitate growth and skill through practices with other developmental teams to help players make the team in upcoming years.

The LHSA high school volleyball program strives to develop leadership, team building, and Christian character in our team members. Our coaches have a love for the game and are dedicated to teaching the skills needed for competitive play. The 2024 Lady Lions High School program is directed by Veronica Pedraza and coached by Mrs. Sarah Carlock, Brandy LeBlanc, and Macy Inman.

LHSA Middle School (ages 11*-13 or 14U if player registration requires reclassification) division is aimed at developmental play and team-building. This team may play fewer games than the high school teams, and those games are scheduled with local schools/groups that have 7th and 8th grade teams. If registration is sufficient, LHSA middle school will divide the group into A and B teams in order to play more games with schools that have both 7th and 8th, A and B or 14U scheduling opportunities.  All players on the developmental middle school team, regardless of experience or skill level, will play to learn the game and to engender leadership, humility, and friendship as they work together.

* There are times that a 10 year old will be admitted based upon insufficient registration otherwise or on skill and ability to compete at the middle school level. Registrations for athletes under the age of 11 will be reserved and notified if there is space available.

Quality of Play

Competitive volleyball implements high school substitution rules. Unlike recreational programs, there is no guarantee of playing time or position. Playing time will be based on skill-sets, agility, endurance, ability, performance, attendance at practice, and additionally, attitude toward coaches, teammates, referees and others. LHSA will strive to provide as many training opportunities as possible. Try-outs will be held with all registrants in order to assess playing skill and team placement. LHSA is NOT, however, a win-at-all-cost organization. The goal is to provide a program in which athletes can grow physically and spiritually and where Jesus Christ is honored in all respects.

Season’s first practice will take place in late July and the team intensives will be mandatory. These practices will be preceded by open gym meetings through much of the pre-season. A mandatory pre-season meeting for parents and players is required and will be held July 2, at which time uniform fees are due. An announcement will go out the week after registration ends.  At the first practice, coaches will meet all the parents and players to discuss the season and answer any questions. Preseason conditioning will be announced prior to the season start and requires a full commitment from players and parents to be in attendance, timely and motivated. Regular practice times vary although they are typically two-three times weekly and include some Wednesday mornings. Practice continues throughout the season, except for game days. Once a complete schedule is obtained, weekly or biweekly notices will be posted to announce practice times, games and any upcoming tournaments. The season runs from August 1 through October 9. 14U or Middle School division is a developmental team and may include fewer games and the season typically ends in late September. There may be opportunity to play in at least one tournament as well. Its purpose is to teach the skills of competitive volleyball and prepare players for high school play. This team will be regulated by the Coastal Christian Athletic League, a newly formed league for middle school/junior high competitive play. LHSA schedules games against area Private, Christian, Public, and Charter schools, including at least one weekend tournament.

Each player's family must be a member of Lighthouse Home School Support in order to register for season play. The cost of season play includes both monetary and time/work contribution beginning with the initial, non-refundable fee of $85. After tryouts and once each player has been assigned to a team, a fee of $165 for high school plus the cost of uniform if needed, or $115* for middle school 6-8 grades (or younger girls whose skill-level allows them on this team) will be billed to the member's account. Registrants who do not make the competitive team will owe no further fees and a uniform will not be needed, as a shirt will be provided. All families wil be required to participat in service work at home games and tournaments or opt out for an additional fee. This player cost does not represent the actual cost for each player. Because an LHSA mission is to make available the sport to as many homeschool students as possible, we have kept the cost low in anticipation of each family's contribution in fundraising, and working at home games and tournaments to contribute to covering the cost of the season. (Current members must renew their annual membership in order to register.)We are trying to keep the cost to a minimum, but we will need to purchase equipment, pay referees, and help pay facility utilities, insurance, etc.. The cost includes the fees to one tournament. *Any other tournament play will require a minimum player roster and will include a tournament fee, for which players may pay up front or help host a fundraiser. Any team sponsorships obtained will contribute to tournament fees, auxiliary equipment, and or coaching assistance. Members who obtain sponsorships may do so in lieu of service work based upon a scale per service requirement.
