Quality of Play

The LHSA volleyball program strives to develop leadership, team building, and Christian character in our team members. Our coaches have a love for the game and are dedicated to teaching the skills needed for competitive play. The Lady Lions program is directed by Lighthouse directors and volunteers and coached by Sarah Carlock, Jessica Dumesnil, and Macy Brown. The Boys high school program is coached by Macy Brown, Seth Brown, and Sarah Carlock. Finally, our NEW Boys Middle School development opportunites are coached by Sarah Carlock and Macy Brown.

The tryouts for Middle school players, who will be placed on the competitive team A or developmental team B according to age and/or skill level, is for evaluation/training purposes. High School teams will be formed according to players’ skills and a skill assessment at tryouts following the completion of registration.

The LHSA high school volleyball program strives to develop leadership, team building, and Christian character in our team members. Our coaches have a love for the game and are dedicated to teaching the skills needed for competitive play. The Lady Lions High school program is coached by Sarah Carlock (High School) and assisted by Jessica Dumesnil, and the Lions Boys' team is coached by Macy Brown and assisted by Seth Brown and Sarah Carlock.

LHSA Middle School program is currently coached by Macy Inman, under the head coach, Sarah Carlock. This program is aimed at developmental play and team-building. The middle school team will play under the guidelines and scheduling of Coastal Christian Athletic League (CCAL)

Competitive volleyball implements high school substitution rules. Unlike recreational programs, there is no guarantee of playing time or position. Playing time will be based on skill-sets, agility, endurance, ability, performance, attendance at practice and additionally, attitude toward coaches, teammates, referees and others. LHSA will strive to provide as many training opportunities as possible. Try-outs will be held with all registrants in order to assess playing skill and team placement. LHSA is NOT, however, a win-at-all-cost organization. The goal is to provide a program in which athletes can grow physically and spiritually and where Jesus Christ is honored in all respects.

Season/Practice

2026 Season’s first practice intensives will be July 20-23 and July 27-30, but will be preceded by open gym meetings through March 2026. A pre-season meeting for parents and players is required (June 5 at 9am) preceeding tryouts.  At least one preseason practice week will be a conditioning week and requires a full commitment from players and parents to be in attendance, timely and motivated. Regular practice times will be on Wednesdays with additonal practices (TBD) throughout the season, except for game days. Once a complete schedule is obtained, weekly or biweekly notices will be posted to announce practice times, games and any upcoming tournaments. The season runs from August 1 through October 9, with a post season tournament posibility for varsity players.

Middle school is a developmental team and may play fewer games, however a new, local district has been formed for middle school. (CCAL) that will result in a set game schedule, possible playoff games, and district tournament. There may be opportunity to play in at least one additional tournament as well. Its purpose is to teach the skills of competitive volleyball and prepare players for high school play. This team may also scrimmage the JV team to further develop thier skills. LHSA schedules games against area Private, Christian, Public, and Charter schools, including at least one weekend tournament.

Cost

Each player's family must be a member of Lighthouse Home School Support in order to register for season play. The cost of season play includes both monetary and time/work contribution beginning with the initial, non-refundable fee of $100. After tryouts and once each player has been assigned to a team, a team fee of $275 for high school girls or $225* for High School Boys and Middle School 6-8 grades (or younger girls whose skill-level allows them on this team) will be billed to the member's account. A uniform fee (jersey only) will also be charged to each player's account in 2025 because new team jerseys are being ordered. Registrants who do not make the competitive team will owe no further fees and a uniform will not be needed, as a shirt will be provided. All families wil be required to participat in service work at home games and tournamentsThis player cost does not represent the actual cost for each player. Because an LHSA mission is to make available the sport to as many homeschool students as possible, we have kept the cost low in anticipation of each family's contribution in fundraising and working at home games and tournaments to contribute to covering the cost of the season. (Current members must renew their annual membership in order to register.)We are trying to keep the cost to a minimum, but we will need to purchase equipment, pay referees, and help pay facility utilities, insurance, etc.. The cost includes the fees to one tournament. *Any other tournament play will require a minimum player roster and will include a tournament fee, for which players may pay up front or help host a fundraiser. Any team sponsorships obtained will contribute to tournament fees, auxiliary equipment, and or coaching assistance. Members who obtain sponsorships may do so in lieu of service work based upon a scale per service requirement.
